BAE Systems named DYW Moray Employer of the Month for August 2026
Based at RAF Lossiemouth, the BAE Systems team has made a significant contribution to Developing the Young Workforce (DYW) Moray’s programme of employer engagement. Over the past three years, the team has supported 47 individual activities across Moray’s primary and secondary schools, alongside taking part in the annual DYW Moray Apprenticeship Fair.
Through this sustained engagement, BAE Systems has provided young people with valuable opportunities to learn more about the diverse career pathways available within engineering, electrical engineering, STEM and project management.
The company’s involvement goes beyond simply introducing pupils to potential careers. By delivering practical and engaging activities, the BAE Systems team helps young people develop a range of transferable skills, including teamwork, communication, problem-solving and collaboration.
Fun, hands-on engineering activities give pupils the opportunity to work together, explore STEM concepts and understand how the skills they are developing in school can be applied in real-world working environments. These experiences can help inspire the next generation to consider careers within engineering and other STEM-related industries.
BAE Systems has also played an important role in supporting senior phase pupils through the Employability Award. Members of the team have contributed their time and expertise to CV workshops and mock interviews, helping pupils understand what employers look for and giving them the opportunity to practise important employability skills in a supportive environment.
These activities are particularly valuable in helping young people build confidence and prepare for future applications, interviews and transitions into further education, training or employment.
The Employer of the Month award recognises not only James, who accepted the award on behalf of BAE Systems, but the wider team whose enthusiasm and dedication have enabled the organisation to make such a positive contribution to DYW Moray and young people throughout the region.
Jenny Mair, DYW School Coordinator, said:
“James and the BAE Systems team have consistently supported young people to develop skills needed in the world of work. They have such passion and enthusiasm for what they do. DYW depend on the support of employers and are so grateful for their contributions in schools in Moray. They rightly deserve to be named as our Employer of the Month.”
The recognition highlights the important role that employers play in helping young people understand the world of work and develop the skills required for future careers. By working directly with schools, employers such as BAE Systems can provide pupils with experiences and insights that complement their classroom learning and help them make informed decisions about their futures.
DYW Moray relies on strong partnerships with local employers to create meaningful opportunities for young people, and BAE Systems’ continued involvement demonstrates the positive impact that sustained employer engagement can have across the education and business communities.
The team’s contribution over the past three years, through school activities, employability support and careers engagement, has helped bring the world of work into the classroom and provided young people across Moray with a greater understanding of the opportunities available to them.
Congratulations to James and the entire BAE Systems team on being named DYW Moray’s Employer of the Month for August 2026.
James from BAE Systems said:
“By bringing science, technology, engineering and maths to hundreds of young people at schools across Moray, we hope we have inspired many of them to consider some of the most exciting careers opportunities available to them. Since 2020, BAE Systems recruited more than 10,000 apprentices and graduates and invested over £1 billion in education and skills across the UK, so it is something we are really passionate about. The team in Moray, including Grant, Deanna, Zara, Ben, Billy, Phil, and I look forward to further opportunities in the year ahead.”
