The role at a glance

An opportunity to become a key member of the team and develop towards Duty Management Moray Sports Centre is a not-for-profit charity providing high-quality sports, fitness and leisure facilities for the people of Elgin and Moray. We are looking for a Senior Sports Centre Assistant to join our team. This is a varied and important role for someone who enjoys being hands-on, takes pride in high standards and wants to develop a broad understanding of how a busy sports centre operates. This is not a desk-based role and no two days will be the same. As a senior member of the team, you will work across the Centre's different operations, helping to keep everything running smoothly and setting the standard for our wider team of part-time Sports Centre Assistants.

Day to day

What You'll Be Doing

  • Your role will cover a wide range of responsibilities, including:
  • Supporting the day-to-day operation of the sports centre
  • Working across reception and the café, providing a friendly and professional service to our customers and members
  • Setting up and preparing sports facilities and equipment
  • Carrying out routine maintenance and practical tasks
  • Helping to maintain our grounds and gardens
  • Ensuring the Centre is clean, safe, well-presented and ready for customers
  • Supporting and setting a positive example for our part-time Sports Centre Assistants
  • Responding to the changing needs of the Centre and helping wherever you are needed
  • You will be someone who doesn't wait to be told what needs doing. You will notice things, take ownership and get on with them.
  • Whether that means stepping behind the café counter, welcoming a customer at reception, moving equipment, fixing something that needs attention or making sure the rest of the team are maintaining the standards we expect, you will be an important part of keeping the Centre running at its best.

What you will need

Requirements

  • We are looking for someone who is:
  • Proactive – someone who sees what needs doing and gets on with it
  • Practical – happy to get involved and turn their hand to a wide range of tasks
  • Responsible – someone we can trust to take ownership and make good decisions
  • Professional – with high standards and pride in the Centre and the service we provide
  • Approachable – confident dealing with customers, members and colleagues
  • Adaptable – comfortable moving between different responsibilities throughout the day
  • A team player – willing to support others and lead by example
  • Ambitious to develop – keen to learn, take on greater responsibility and progress
  • You do not need to have experience in every aspect of the role. We can teach you the operation of the Centre; what we can't teach is attitude, initiative and the willingness to get stuck in.
  • This could be an excellent opportunity for someone at the beginning of their career, including a recent graduate, who is looking for a role that provides genuine responsibility and development rather than simply a first job.
  • If you have an interest in sport, fitness, leisure, hospitality, facilities or management, and want to understand how a busy sports centre really works, this could be an excellent place to start.

Life at Moray Sports Centre

Perks and benefits

A pathway towards Duty Management

One of the most exciting aspects of this role is the opportunity to develop your knowledge and responsibility across the whole Centre.

You will be trained in the different areas of our operation and, once appropriately trained, will provide Duty Manager coverduring periods of annual leave and other planned absences.

This is not a management position, but it is a genuine opportunity to gain experience of the responsibilities involved in running a busy sports and leisure facility. You will develop an understanding of the Centre from an operational and management perspective and, for the right person, this could provide an excellent foundation for progression into a Duty Manager role should an opportunity arise in the future.

There may also be opportunities to develop additional skills and qualifications in areas such as fitness and sports coaching.
